Weekly announcements, class news, upcoming events, and important updates from Mr. Austin โ posted every Monday morning.
Good morning, everyone! We are in the final stretch and I want to make sure every student is on track for the end of the school year.
This Week in PE: We are wrapping up the basketball unit with a skills assessment on Thursday. Come prepared to demonstrate dribbling, passing, and shooting with proper form. Review the demo videos on the Interactive Fitness page for a refresher.
FitnessGram Post-Test: The post-test begins Tuesday, June 30. We will run the PACER test, push-up test, and curl-up test over two class days. Make sure you are rested and hydrated. Focus on YOUR personal best โ this is not a competition.
Health Final Project: The end-of-year wellness reflection is due June 27. Review the rubric on the Webquest page. Your reflection should be 1โ2 pages addressing your personal fitness goals, what you learned this year, and how you plan to stay active over the summer.
Absence Work Deadline: The final deadline for submitting make-up work is June 27 at 3:00 PM. Check the Absence Work page now if you have anything outstanding.
Great energy in the gym this week! The improvement from Day 1 to now has been outstanding. I am proud of every one of you.
Basketball Skills: This week we focus on defensive positioning and help defense. We will play 3-on-3 scrimmages. Remember โ hustle counts more than scoring in my class.
Health Unit B Update: We are finishing the mental health unit. The coping strategies worksheet is due Wednesday. If you missed any lessons, see the Absence Work page immediately.
Dress Code Reminder: With warmer weather here, ensure your footwear is appropriate and tied. Sandals, slides, and open-toe shoes are never permitted in the gymnasium. Improper footwear = observation only + loss of participation points.
Welcome back! We are officially starting our basketball unit โ a sport that requires coordination, teamwork, communication, and fitness. Everything we have been building all year comes together here.
New Interactive Fitness Activities: Three new cardio challenges have been added to the Interactive Fitness page. These are optional but highly recommended for any student who wants to boost their FitnessGram cardiovascular score before the post-test.
Spring Newsletter Archive: If you missed last month's Spring Newsletter, it is now in the archive. It includes our end-of-year event schedule, Field Day information, and recognition for students who achieved all Healthy Fitness Zone scores.
